WebKomputing's Awanee JCOS has been expanded to include several GSM standards such as GSM 11.11, GSM 11.14, GSM 03.48 and GSM 03.19 that cover smart cards for use in mobile phone systems. The Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) is the first international system employing a smart card as a secure device for the authentication of the subscription and the subscriber. The smart card, which is called the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM), contains subscription and security related data as well as user data as an important part of the security built into GSM and as a token for services rendered to subscribers and operators. WebKomputing's OS offers mobile operators and value-added service providers a Java platform for their application development. The development time can be significantly reduced. The applications can be downloaded over the air and deployed across SIM cards built upon different chips. The OS has also migrated to next generation to incorporate the UICC standards for meeting the 3G mobile service requirements. The new UICC cards embody a bloated Java Card OS covering the major features from GP, VGP, SIM and USIM. UICC will become a ubiquitous security platform supporting almost any smart card applications. UICC will truly implement a multi-application card. UICC will also build seamless ties with any networked devices and make it an ideal ubiquitous security device for any application, whether it's on the web, PC or mobile platforms.
